3M Scotch Rubber Mastic Tape 2228

Overview

3M Scotch Rubber Mastic Tape 2228 is a self-fusing rubber mastic tape with a highly conformable EPDM backing and a temperature-stable mastic adhesive, delivering a durable seal for indoor and weather-exposed outdoor applications. It is premium-grade electrical insulation, moisture sealing and mechanical protection: primary insulation for cable and wire connections rated up to 1,000 V, primary insulation for bus bar connections rated up to 35 kV, and vibration padding for motor leads. The thick 65-mil total construction allows quick build-up and padding over sharp edges and irregular connections, and helps resist UV exposure and weathering. It is a UL recognized component for applications up to 130°C (266°F). 3M technical data sheets also recommend half-lapped layers with the tape stretched to about three-quarters of its width and an overwrap of vinyl electrical tape for mechanical protection.
