Overview

Hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid, CAS 7647-01-0) is a clear to pale-yellow, strongly acidic solution of hydrogen chloride in water that gives off corrosive fumes. Typical published technical-grade specification: assay about 30-32% (31.5% typical) by titration, colour 10 APHA max and density about 1.16 g/mL or higher; iron is typically well below 1 ppm on purified grades, and limits vary by producer and lot. Typical uses include metal pickling and descaling, pH adjustment and neutralisation in water treatment, oil-well acidising, regeneration of ion-exchange resins and as a raw material in chemical manufacture. It is corrosive (UN 1789, Class 8): causes severe skin burns and eye damage and the fumes irritate the respiratory tract. Always add acid to water, never the reverse; use acid-resistant (e.g. HDPE, rubber-lined) containers and PPE, and never mix with bleach (hypochlorite), which releases toxic chlorine gas. It reacts with many metals to release flammable hydrogen. Please request the producer certificate of analysis and SDS through the RFQ.
