Glacial Acetic Acid 99%+

Overview

Glacial acetic acid (ethanoic acid, CAS 64-19-7) is a clear, colourless, pungent organic acid that freezes into ice-like crystals at about 16°C. Typical published technical-grade specification: assay 99.2-100.2% (99.7% typical), colour 3-10 APHA and water 0.15% max (Karl Fischer); limits vary by producer and lot, and reagent grades are specified more tightly. Typical physical data: boiling point about 118°C, flash point about 39-40°C (closed cup), density about 1.05 g/mL. Typical uses include manufacture of acetates, vinyl acetate and cellulose acetate, solvent, textile dyeing and finishing, descaling and cleaning formulations, and pH control. It is corrosive and flammable (UN 2789, Class 8 with subsidiary hazard 3): causes severe skin burns and eye damage and the vapours irritate the respiratory tract. Keep away from ignition sources, use in ventilated areas with acid-resistant PPE, and warm gently in a closed container if it has solidified.
