Citric Acid Anhydrous

Overview

Citric acid anhydrous (CAS 77-92-9) is a white, odourless, crystalline organic acid that is readily soluble in water. Typical published specification (food/pharmacopoeial monograph, JECFA): assay 99.5-100.5% on the anhydrous basis, water 0.5% max (Karl Fischer), sulfated ash 0.05% max, oxalate 100 mg/kg max and sulfate 150 mg/kg max; limits vary by producer and grade. Typical uses include descaling of boilers, heat exchangers and kettles, mild acid cleaning and rust removal, chelating agent in cleaners and water treatment, pH adjustment, and acidulant in food and beverage when supplied in a food grade. It is a weak organic acid: it causes serious eye irritation and the dust irritates the respiratory tract, but it is not classed as dangerous goods for transport. Keep dry; it is hygroscopic and cakes if exposed to humidity. Please request the producer certificate of analysis and SDS through the RFQ, and state if you need a food-grade or technical-grade product.
