Glycerin 99.5% USP
Overview
Glycerin (glycerol, glycerine, CAS 56-81-5) is a clear, colourless, odourless, viscous, sweet-tasting and hygroscopic liquid. Typical published USP-grade specification: assay 99.0-101.0% on the anhydrous basis (99.5% typical grade), water 0.5% max, density or specific gravity about 1.262 at 20-25°C (1.2612 min at 25/25°C on a 99.7% sheet); limits vary by producer, source (vegetable, animal or synthetic) and monograph version. Typical physical data: boiling point about 290°C (decomposes), flash point about 160°C. Typical uses include personal care and cosmetics, pharmaceutical syrups and ointments, food and tobacco humectant, polyols for polyurethane and alkyd resins, lubricant and antifreeze applications, and chemical manufacture. It has low toxicity and is not classed as dangerous goods for transport; avoid heating to decomposition (acrolein fumes). Please request the producer certificate of analysis and SDS through the RFQ, and state the source and grade (USP, food, technical) you need.
