Diethylene Glycol (DEG) 99%
Overview
Diethylene glycol (CAS 111-46-6) is a colourless, practically odourless, hygroscopic, low-volatility liquid. Typical published industrial-grade sales specification (MEGlobal): purity 99.0 wt% min, monoethylene glycol 0.2% max, triethylene glycol 0.7% max, water 0.2% max, colour 10 Pt-Co max, specific gravity about 1.117-1.119 at 20/20°C, distillation initial boiling point 242°C min and dry point 250°C max, acidity 50 ppm max as acetic acid and iron 1 ppm max; limits vary by producer and lot. Typical physical data: boiling point about 245°C, flash point about 143°C. Typical uses include unsaturated polyester and polyurethane resins, plasticisers, natural-gas dehydration, solvent for dyes and inks, antifreeze/coolant blends and chemical intermediate. It is harmful if swallowed and may damage the kidneys. Technical-grade DEG must never be used in food, drink, cosmetics or medicines (contamination with DEG has caused fatal poisonings); only pharmaceutical-grade material may be considered for such uses. Please request the producer certificate of analysis and SDS through the RFQ.
