Caustic Potash (Potassium Hydroxide) Flakes 90%

Overview

Caustic potash (potassium hydroxide, KOH, CAS 1310-58-3) flakes are a strong base used where a potassium rather than sodium alkali is needed. Typical published producer specification ranges for the 90% flake grade: KOH 90.0% min (89.5% min for some producers), potassium carbonate (K2CO3) about 0.44-0.5% max, sodium (as NaOH) about 0.8-1.0% max, chloride about 50 mg/kg to 0.026% max, iron about 2-6 mg/kg max; limits and basis vary by producer and lot. It is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide from air, so containers must be kept tightly closed. Typical uses include potassium soaps and liquid detergents, alkaline battery electrolyte, potassium salts and fertiliser or agrochemical production and general chemical manufacture. It is corrosive (UN 1813, Class 8): it causes severe skin burns and eye damage and dissolves in water with strong heat; wear chemical-resistant gloves, face shield and protective clothing and follow the producer SDS. Producers commonly pack flakes in 25 kg bags. Please request the producer certificate of analysis and SDS through the RFQ.
