How to Choose Threadlocker Strength

Threadlockers are anaerobic adhesives that cure inside the threads of a fastener once air is excluded, locking the joint and helping prevent loosening from vibration. They are generally grouped into low, medium and high strength grades.

Low-strength threadlockers are typically used on small fasteners or applications where the joint needs to be adjusted or removed with hand tools. Medium-strength grades are the most common choice for general industrial maintenance, offering a secure hold that can still be removed with standard tools when needed.

High-strength threadlockers are intended for fasteners that are not expected to be removed during routine maintenance, such as permanent structural connections. Because removal often requires heat, they should be used selectively.
