How to Choose Industrial Grease

Industrial grease is typically selected based on four main factors: the load the bearing or component carries, its operating speed, the ambient and operating temperature range, and the environment it's exposed to (moisture, dust, or washdown).

Heavier loads generally call for greases with higher base oil viscosity, while high-speed applications often need a lighter grease to avoid excess friction and heat buildup. Extreme temperatures — either high or low — require greases specifically rated for that range, since standard greases can harden, thin out, or break down outside their intended limits.

In washdown or high-moisture environments, water resistance becomes an important factor to prevent the grease from being washed out of the bearing. If your equipment runs in a food-grade environment, a certified food-grade lubricant is required.
